  • This mini musical genius is rarely separated from his toy piano or his idol, Beethoven—except when he’s calling a game as the reliable catcher on Charlie Brown’s baseball team. The rest of his time is spent fending off unwanted advances from the bane of his existence: Lucy.

  • Did you know: Schulz chose Beethoven as Schroeder's muse because he believed words beginning with "B" sounded funny...like blockhead and beagle.

Last Appeared: August 13th, 2015 / First appearance: August 15th, 1968 Shroeder, Linus, and Lucy surround Charlie Brown, who dsstands on top of the pitcher's mound. He is shaking. Linus says, "Come on, Charlie Brown..we'll take you home.." "I'm going to pitch a great game.." says Charlie Brown.

"That little red-haired girl is watching, and I'm going to pitch a great game, and she's going to be impressed, and..." Charlie Brown continues as Linus leads him off
First appearance: August 22nd, 1979 Lucy stands in the outfield and shouts, "Hey, catcher!"

Schroeder wears his catcher's equipment and stands next to Lucy. Lucy smiles and says, "It's lonely out there in right field so I'm gonna stand here with you."

Schroeder says, "If you stand there you'll get hit by a foul ball."

Lucy stands directly behind Schroeder and asks, "How about here?"

Lucy continues, "Well it's a fact that girls are smarter than boys!"

Lucy says, "And you know who discovered it?"

Lucy raises her hand in the air and says, "Women scientists!" Schroeder says, "Oh, good grief!"

First appearance: July 21st, 1980 Schroeder plays the piano as Woodstock approaches.

Woodstock stands on the piano and sings.

A music note flies toward Woodstock.

Pigpen walks up and takes a piece. He says, 'Congratulations, Charlie Brown!" Charlie Brown replies, "Thank You, Pigpen..."

He replies, "They don't have any 'world's champion piano player'.."

Lucy grimaces at the reader.

She exclaims, "I think it's a complete waste of time to practice something and not get to be world's champion!"

Charlie Brown lies on the mound. Schroeder stands above him and says, "In all the time we've been playing, I've never seen a foul ball . . . "

First appearance: September 15th, 1958 Schroeder is playing the piano as Lucy leans on it reading. She reads, "Here's something interesting.." It says, 'A piano can strike notes through a range of seven octaves.."

She continues, "..A child's toy piano has in comparison, a range of only one octave and is virtually useless as a musical instrument because of that."

First appearance: December 8th, 1958 Lucy is reading whiles Schroeder plays the piano. She reads,"It says here Beethoven was born Dec, 16, 1770.."

She continues," However, it also says that there is some doubt as to this date.."

She watches as Schroeder walks away.

Charlie Brown looks at the placard that Schroeder is carrying. It reads, "Only eight more days until Beethoven's birthday (more or less)"

First appearance: May 15th, 1958 Charlie Brown and Linus are playing a board game on the ground.

They look up and give the reader a quizzical look.

They look up in the tree at Snoopy a.k.a 'Vulture' perched there.

'Vulture' falls out of the tree as Linus and Charlie Brown yell, "GET OUT OF HERE!!"

"What do you think would happen if I turned around and gave him a big kiss?" Shroecder looks up. Lucy says, "Who knows?"

Schroeder plays the piano. Musical notes on a staff appear in the air. Snoopy is still asleep.

The musical staff goes through Snoopy's head. The notes go in one ear and and out the other. Snoopy's eyes get big and wide.

Schroeder continues to play. Snoopy looks flustered.

Last Appeared: October 18th, 2000 / First appearance: October 23rd, 1974 Schroeder plays the piano. Lucy leans on the piano. A glass sits on the piano. Schroeder says, "Please don't set your lemonade on my piano . . . The glass might leave a ring . . ."

Lucy says, "Oooooo!! Aren't we fussy, fussy, fussy?"

Schroeder pulls the piano out from underneath Lucy.

Lucy continues, "I'll even make some popcorn . . . Would you like to do that?"

Schroeder replies, "No, thank you."

Lucy says, "This has been a great year."

Schroeder continues playing and says, "I can't comprehend what you're saying." Lucy says, "Well, what I mean is, if you and I ever get married, will . . ."

Linus stands next to the doghouse. The blanket completely covers Snoopy. Snoopy thinks, "I hate to see fall come . . . It gets dark so early . ."

Snoopy lies on the doghouse and writes. He thinks, "As long as this is going to be a Fourth of July speech, I think I should slip in a few digs about dogs not being allowed to vote . . We can be drafted into the army, but we can't vote . . ."

Snoopy sits up. He smiles and thinks, "Then I'll tell my latest anti-cat joke . .
First appearance: September 25th, 1991 Charlie Brown and Sally sit at a table. Sally says, "I can't do this math problem . . It has three's and four's in it . . ."

Sally says, "I can't do problems that have three's and four's in them . ."

Charlie Brown asks, "What'll you do when you get to eight's and nine's?" Sally says, "I'll be sick that day . ."

First appearance: September 25th, 1989 Sally sits in a beanbag chair. Charlie Brown says, "Well!, I'm glad to see you're watching the news . . . What's going on in the world?"

Sally replies, "The anchor person looked better when she had long hair . ."

Andy says, "We'd invite him to play "spoons." Andy says, "Then, when he wasn't looking, we'd hit him with a spoon."

Last Appeared: September 30th, 2007 / First appearance: September 25th, 1960 "Nobody likes me!" Charlie Brown is hunched on the grass. Lucy stands next to him.

"Nobody REALLY likes me!" he continues as they walk along.

He kicks and continues, "Even then they'd have to drag me off! I'd kick and scream and put up a real fight!"

Charlie Brown talks into the phone and replies, "Team?"

Peppermint Patty talks into the phone and replies, "That funny looking kid

Sally continues, "I told her it was hard for me because of my bursitis!"

I kind of like Schroeder. He’s fairly down to earth, but he has his problems too. He has to play on the painted black piano keys, and he thinks Beethoven was the first President of the United States.
