Call For Artists

Looking For Lucy

Saint Paul, MN -- A call for community artists for Saint Paul's 2002 summer-long public art initiative, Looking For Lucy, is being issued today. Artists are being asked to submit creative design solutions for the 103 Lucy Van Pelt statues that will be on display all summer long throughout Saint Paul. Looking For Lucy is the third year of Saint Paul's tribute to Charles M. Schulz, creator of the PEANUTS comic strip.

An Artist Workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Touchstone Energy Place, 175 West Kellogg Boulevard, Meeting Rooms 10 and 11 in downtown Saint Paul. All interested artists will receive detailed information about the design guidelines and criteria, recommended material, and the selection process at the workshop.

This is a unique opportunity for local artists to be part of a high visibility project. Artists will receive an honorarium of $1,000 dollars for each approved design (maximum of 3 designs) selected by a sponsor. This honorarium includes materials and the execution of designs.

Artist designs are due on Friday, April 19. Sponsor will then select their designs and contact selected artists by Friday, May 10, 2002. The Looking For Lucy Paint Off will be held on May 17 - 22 in Roy Wilkins Auditorium at Touchstone Energy Place. The public will be invited to visit the Looking For Lucy Paint Off during selected hours.
