PEANUTSTM and the Great Pumpkin get back on track with Action Performance
PHOENIX (May 28, 2002) -- Action Performance Companies Inc., the leader in motorsports collectibles and merchandising, today announced a partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing, The Home Depot and United Media that will bring the PEANUTSTM characters from the strip created by Charles M. Schulz back to the racetrack.
This time, the PEANUTSTM gang will be on the lookout for the harbinger of Halloween-The Great Pumpkin, and NASCAR Winston Cup driver Tony Stewart will be leading the way.
"This latest PEANUTSTM-inspired program is yet another opportunity to showcase the family atmosphere of racing," said Fred Wagenhals, Action's chairman, president and CEO. "Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Woodstock and the rest of the gang have long been appreciated by children of all ages, which ideally mirrors today's NASCAR fan."
The PEANUTSTM characters will be featured twice at the track as part of this year's Great Pumpkin event. Initially, Stewart will pilot the black No. 20 The Home Depot/In Search of the Great Pumpkin Pontiac during the August night race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Stewart's final PEANUTSTM-themed car also will be unveiled in August and ultimately will race during the October event in Atlanta.
"Once again, Action Performance has put together a great package, combining The Home Depot, the PEANUTSTM gang and Tony Stewart," said Craig Schulz, son of PEANUTSTM creator Charles Schulz. "The Schulz family is excited to be a part of this great family sport and eagerly awaits the release of the Tony Stewart NASCAR collectibles."
Action Performance, the home for Joe Gibbs Racing merchandise, will produce both die-cast versions of the No. 20 The Home Depot/In Search of the Great Pumpkin Pontiac and the to-be-unveiled The Home Depot/It's the Great Pumpkin! race cars as well as other related souvenirs and memorabilia.
