METLIFE AND SNOOPY SIGN UP FOR ANOTHER TEN YEARS

New special based on the popular theme of baseball in the comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz to air later this year

New York - December 11, 2002 - MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) is pleased to announce that it will continue its long-standing relationship with Snoopy and the rest of the PEANUTS characters. MetLife and United Media signed a new 10-year contract to continue the inclusion of PEANUTS in MetLife's advertising. Financial terms were not disclosed for the contract. MetLife has featured Snoopy and the PEANUTS characters since 1985.

"Snoopy has been an important part of our advertising campaign for 17 years," said Lisa M. Weber, senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer. "We are very pleased to continue our ongoing relationship with United Media. This winning combination has been successful in helping us to differentiate our brand identity in the marketplace."

"We're looking forward to another ten years of partnership with a company that fully recognizes the power of the PEANUTS brand and what benefits it lends to a corporation like MetLife," said Douglas Stern, President/CEO of United Media.

Today, Snoopy plays an important role in MetLife's advertising campaign - "have you met life today?SM" - which emphasizes the company's new vitality, scope and growth, while at the same time retaining the brand's familiarity, strength and stability established over its nearly 135-year history. MetLife, Inc., through its subsidiaries and affiliates, is a leading provider of insurance and other financial services to individual and institutional customers. The MetLife companies serve approximately 12 million individuals in the U.S. and companies and institutions with 33 million employees and members. It also has international insurance operations in 13 countries.
