Charlie Brown was so nervous when he met Peggy Jean at summer camp that he introduced himself as “Brownie Charles.” Their budding romance hit a snag when she challenged him to kick a football and he couldn’t bring himself to make the attempt. They soon reconciled and she gave Charlie Brown his first kiss. In the ultimate gesture of love, Charlie Brown sold his comic book collection to make enough money to buy Peggy Jean gloves for Christmas. Unfortunately, her mom bought her the same pair. The following summer they reunited at summer camp, where Charlie Brown learns Peggy Jean has a new boyfriend. The heartbroken Charlie Brown, needing to hear a friendly voice, called home that afternoon to talk to Snoopy.
