Royanne Hobbs

a girl with long brown hair pitching a baseball

FIRST APPEARANCE:

April 1, 1993

A natural talent on the baseball diamond, Royanne Hobbs claims to be the granddaughter of baseball legend Roy Hobbs, the hero of Bernard Malamud’s acclaimed novel, The Natural. Royanne is pitching when Charlie Brown hits his first-ever game-winning home run. Later that summer, Royanne gives up an inside-the-park home run to Charlie Brown, earning his team a rare multiple-win season. Still later that summer, over chocolate sundaes at the local ice-cream parlor, Royanne confesses to Charlie Brown that she could have struck him out, but because she likes him, she allowed him to get those game-winning home runs. All a dejected Charlie Brown can do is tell her that Roy Hobbs is a fictional character.
