Charlie Brown finds a kindred spirit in Roy when both are alone and in need of friendship at summer camp. The pair bond over loneliness and baseball. Charlie Brown is glad that his life experience is able to help Roy through a difficult time, and Roy is pleased to make “a good temporary friend” that summer. Roy meets a homesick Linus at camp the following summer and relates the story of the round-headed kid who helped him get over his own anxieties and they learn that they have a mutual friend in Charlie Brown. Roy reconnects with Charlie Brown when he visits the neighborhood and introduces Charlie Brown to another friend of his who enjoys baseball— Peppermint Patty!
